Founded in 1972, Fridsro Children’s Home (FCH) has become a place of refuge for orphaned and underprivileged children in Sri Lanka. Over the last 30 years, hundreds of children have found new hope and a new beginning for their lives. Based on Christian principles, FCH is the result of the need realized by Swedish missionary Anna Greta Perera when she arrived on the island in 1969. Anna Greta and her husband Rev. Jacob Perera started FCH by simply reaching out to street kids and orphans.
The goal and desire of the staff at FCH is to care for the overall needs of a child. The children at FCH are resident and stay at the home until they are old enough to support themselves or until they can be reintegrated with their guardians. During their time at the home, the children receive medical attention, healthy food, education, tuition classes as well as sports activities, music and dancing. They also participate in various other social activities.

Our mission is to lovingly nurture the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of orphans and destitute elders in a secure home; to provide hope for unemployed young adults through vocational training; and to provide nourishment and education to refugee children; all without regard to the race, ethnicity, religion, or social circumstance of those in need; and to establish a center where people who have been divided for centuries can meet in peace; and to do these things in a way that promotes understanding between peoples of different cultures and religions so they can COEXIST in mutual respect.

Project we provided immediate crisis help and consultancy for:
The tsunami rebuilding and rehabilitation program was started the day after the tsunami on December 26th 2004. We have to date helped rebuild 250, 2 bedroom houses, 150 toilets, 144 new wells, 8 kilometers of road, 2 children's study centers with play grounds and one sub post office.
In the immediate aftermath of the tsunami we handed out over 265 tons of food (including Vegetables, Rice, Flour, Sugar etc.) and were able to supply 1,600 tents for temporary living quarters.
In addition we provided a kids psycho-social program called Kids Club to both engage the children in the camps in learning and fun as well as give them a place where they could talk about and process the tragedy that they had been through. We served over 300 children at a time for 25 weeks, providing them with games, learning, a snack, lunch and most of all people who cared to listen to them.
